Her story: Why Printing out your photos is so important.

by | Mar 8, 2019 | Inspiration

It’s international women’s day and we’ve got a special treat for you. As a female majority company, we decided to interview a few of our female leaders and employees and ask them their opinion on why they think it’s so important for people to capture their happiest moments in photos and have the images printed out.

Maybe after seeing things from their point of view, it will inspire you to start snapping more photos of the things that matter most to you.

Hanny

“In my opinion, it is important to capture your moments on camera because no two moments are the same. You can either take the shot and keep it or miss the chance and lose that moment forever.

This brings me to the point of why printing these moments out are equally important. I strongly believe that we should print out our photos because then it’ll become a tangible memory that we can share, touch, feel and pass on to the next generation. A digital copy, on the other hand, is just a file.

Having a physical reminder will also help us connect better with the moments, places and experience. Seeing the side of the image by side with the accompanying text (kind of like a story) is something you just can’t do with a digital file. Plus, it’s a whole different feeling to be able to see your memories sprinkled around your living space, rather than looking at those same photos on the phone.

Additionally, printing out your memories and turning them into photo books is also a great way to connect with people as it encourages people to start conversations and share their own memories and experience. Just imagine if you’re having a gathering! It’s so much easier and less awkward to pass around a beautifully designed photo book as opposed to playing hot potato with your phone when you want to show someone something.”

“From my personal experience, my mom actually passed away a few years ago, but sadly I found that we didn’t have many pictures of her. I felt a bit regretful by the fact that as if more and more of our memories together are fading from my mind as each day passes by.

I think that the older we get, it becomes much easier for us to forget our precious memories. So I believe that the best way to preserve our memories is by capturing them in photos and printing them out. By doing this, we can keep our precious memories with the people we love alive and we will be able to share it with others.

Also from a mom’s point of view, taking pictures and printing them out in a book format is the best gift we could ever give to our children. When they get older, they’ll be amazed to see their growth and that helps to teach them to keep their memories too. Plus, by printing out our photos physically, we won’t have to worry too much if (touch wood!) we lost the digital copy by accident (changing phones, accidental deletes, data corruption etc).”

Miu

“I live by the Carpe Diem principle or Y.O.L.O. (You only live once) in modern terms! No matter how good you think your memory is right now, time is going to catch up to you and you’ll find yourself getting increasingly forgetful.

That being said, snapping photos and putting them up on the cloud or saving them digitally won’t really help you recall anything either! Now, before you bash me, let me explain my stance on things.

Now that we’ve gone digital, we don’t have to worry about running out of camera film. We can just re-shoot until we get the perfect shot, but in an effort to get one good photo, we probably need to go through at least 5 shots (and that’s me being conservative!) By having too many photos stored in your phone/cloud, it’ll look messy and cluttered. Sooner or later, you’ll end up needing more space and will wind up deleting your old photos along with your memories!

Therefore, what I would do is printing out my most favourite moments and use it to decorate my living space. In all honesty, just seeing them around the house makes me feel happier.”

Yan Er

“Personally, I think sharing memories can bring people closer together. How many times have you sat around with your family or friends, just relaxing and recalling all the fun times you’ve had together? Or what about the time you’re doing some spring cleaning and came across an album full of pictures from not only your past but also that of your parents’ as well?

The nostalgia is real and if you’ve lost someone, it’s good to have something to remember them by. One day when I’m old, I want to be able to show my grandkids some of my favourite memories and maybe do a bit of storytelling. Because I’ve printed my photos out, I’ll have visual aids to help me recall the moments and to show them what I was talking about.”

Celine

“For me, I can’t remember every single moment of the past in great detail, but when I do try to recall something precious from my past, it makes me feel really happy and sentimental.

However, such is the way of recalling something through memories alone; I can only see it in my mind. I can’t physically touch it, nor can I directly see the smiles on the faces of my family and friends.

This is why I take photographs and have them printed out. By having a physical reminder of my memories with me, I’ll be able to look back at them whenever I want and recall things with greater clarity.”

Based on all the responses we’ve gotten from our amazing, ‘iron ladies’, it’s safe to conclude that some joys can only be relieved through photographs and that by printing out your precious moments, you’ll be able to enjoy tangible reminders of all the good and important things that have happened in your life.
