5 Creative Ways to Use Your Raya Photos

by | May 14, 2021 | How To, Inspiration

Hari Raya (also known as Eid al-Fitr) marks the end of the Muslim fasting month. It’s a joyous occasion celebrated by families and loved ones – marked by feasts, homecoming, contemplation, forgiveness and reconciliation. With a majority of long-distance relatives (parents, children, cousins, uncles, etc…) coming back to town over the Raya Holidays, it’s not surprising to know that a lot of fond memories are made during this particular time period.

As we’ve all come to realise, each precious moment is fleeting. We do our best to preserve them for as long as possible with photos (thank you technology for digital photos!), but how many of us actually revisit those images (stored in phones, cameras or USB drives) months or even years later?

That’s why we’ve pooled together several cute, classy and creative ways to use and repurpose your Raya photos – turning them into gifts, keepsakes and home decor items that will last well past the season.

A Gift Worth Drinking

Are you and/or your family members those types of people who can’t start their morning without a good cup of coffee? What about a steaming cup of tea? A comforting mug of hot Milo? If the answer is ‘yes’, here’s an idea that’ll definitely tickle your fancy: create a collection of personalised mugs – one for each member of your family and customise them with their latest Raya #OOTD.

The 15oz Photo Mug is the largest-sized mug that we have in store that you can personalise. Made of a microwave and dishwasher safe ceramic material, the mug is also coated with ORCA certified coating – making it resistant to colour fade for up to 10 years.

Besides being designed to hold more of your precious liquid energy, the customisable 15oz mug would be terrific as a gift or for personal use.

Pro-Tip: If you’re looking for something a little more timeless, lightweight and good for both children and the elderly, you can consider personalising a set of stylish enamel mugs instead.

Let Your Raya Live On

What makes Hari Raya so special is that it’s one of the few times a year that you’re (mostly) guaranteed to see your entire family gathering in one spot. This means that your phones will likely be filled with hundreds, if not thousands of photos – each one reflecting a special and precious moment from your Eid celebration – over the course of the Raya holidays.

For example, the customary family photo – showing off that year’s Raya outfit and colour combo, selfies with the cousins, fun snaps of new additions to the family (like a new niece or nephew or spouse) and even photos with friends during open houses or get-togethers.

To ensure that you’re able to look back onto these moments easily in the future, why not create a Flush Mount Raya Photo Book to start or add to your collection. These photo books are special because they’re made by bonding your page spread onto a hardboard, giving each page a thickness of 1.5mm and a sturdy feel. Additionally, due to its unique binding method, the flush mount photo books will also lay completely flat – giving you a perfect 180° flat view of your images.

It is the perfect way to honour and celebrate your eid-citing memories. (And let’s be honest, your relatives will probably want a copy too!)

Super Size Your Moments

With every Raya celebration, there’s bound to be a brand new roll of photos locked into your phone’s gallery. After sharing a few stylish and fun(ny) snaps onto social media, what will you do with the rest of the photos?

Instead of letting them stay unseen inside the recesses of your phone gallery, why not incorporate your favourite snaps into your home decor? At Pixajoy, we’ve grown increasingly fond of the idea of blowing up a picture and printing it out onto large-sized canvas prints

Not only does it look extraordinary, but it’s a great way to easily bring life to dull walls or create a focal point that you can decorate around. Plus, every home needs at least one family portrait, right? Why not make it a classy affair by printing out a canvas print where everyone is all dressed up in their Raya best!

Note: Depending on the canvas type, the size range may vary. For standard canvas, the largest size available for customisation is 40”x 20” / 20”x 40”. For the canvas lite, the largest size available for customisation is 16”x 18” / 18” x 16”.

Prints with Purpose

Another creative way to use your raya photos is to give them to your relatives as presents. We’ve mentioned before that in this day and age, not everybody has the thought of printing out their photos. But after careful observation, we can definitely say that everybody does like receiving them.

If you’re stumped on ideas on what you can gift to your relatives, a simple stack of printed photos from your Raya get together will definitely brighten their day. From portrait shots to family photos, present them with a physical reminder of all the simple and joyful moments from Eid.

Pro-Tip: The classic photo prints sizes include 3R and 4R (which comes with its own stylish keepsake box), but if you’d like to give a refreshing and modern twist to photo prints, you can opt to print out a stack of 5×5 square prints instead.

A Year of Happiness

We all know what new parents (and grandparents) really want: to show off photos of their adorable children and grandchildren to the rest of the world. But of course, they don’t want to come off as overbearing or excessively showy. So the best way to display those adorable Raya snaps of the little ones is through printing them out as a calendar.

We recommend going for the customisable calendar cards. They’re stylish, can be used as a desktop display piece and once the month is over, you can keep the cards with the photo to be used as decor. Additionally, the calendar cards also come with a writable back so you can use them to jot down important notes like birthdays, appointments and the likes while reminiscing about all the great memories made during Raya.

Note: Once the year ends, you can get a refill pack of the calendar cards without the stand.

Picture Perfect Gift.

Proof that a little book can go a long way, the Mini Softcover photo book is a great way to make use of all those ‘B Roll’ photos that just didn’t make the cut for social media. With thousands of photos stored in your gallery, there’s bound to be tons of fun, silly and meaningful moments that would look perfect when printed out and turned into a pocket-sized photo book – one that you can easily share or gift to members of your family.

Simply include pictures of all the moments that you smile – the food, the outfits, the family mingling and enjoying each other’s company. You can even enlist the help of siblings or cousins to gather even more photos to include in the photo book to make it extra special.

When you’re done, print out a few copies and GIFT them to your relatives. That way every member of your extended family can own a copy and will be able to look back on the moments fondly.

Note: No need to worry about low-resolution warnings as this small-but-mighty photo book is just the right size for you to print our digital photos downloaded from social media sites like Instagram or Facebook, beautifully.
